SPP Details

Hey guys,

I'm a small time Xero investor who bought at the original IPO. I'm keen to buy some more shares under the new SPP plan. THe press release says we will be getting more details around the 30th April however still haven't seen anything. Can someone confirm on the details?

Xero API

Hey Guys,

I currently utilize WHMCS for billing at the moment due to its ease of use and flexibility in terms of integration. A company I do work for is looking to create some SaS (software as a service) online services. What would be great is if the billing for such services could be passed to a Xero API for invoice generation at the end of each month.

E.g. Client X uses 500 of Service a @ $0.40 each and 200 of Service b @ $0.90 each.

Our script would provide these details to Xero and then at the end of each month an invoice would be generated based on the amount of each of these services the customer consumed during that month. I realize Xero already has an API but would it provide this kind of cutom billing ability?

If so it would really make Xero a killer product to integrate a billing/accounting system directly into these kinds of scripts and be really handy for small firms looking to provide such services.

Congratulations to Xero on winning both the People's Choice and Judge's award for Best Banking/Bill Paying site in this year's Webby Awards.

Sometimes a Press Release reveals a lot

I hear some people trying very hard to "talk up Xero", but I do wonder about the viability of the company.

The latest press release I read noted that Xero has posted an annual net loss before tax of $6.75 million, in line with expectations and overtaking the previous year's $4.31 million loss.

The same press release also reported customer revenue was $959,000 from a customer base of 6,000.

A quick calculation shows their revenue is only $159.83 per customer, on that basis to break even, they would need to increase their customer base by a HUGE amount.

Is that sort of increase achievable ?

Xero - Customer Billing and Direct Debits

I am under the understanding that with Xero you can have reoccuring invoices for customers however can Xero be setup to debit a customers bank account that you have a direct debit facility setup with.

So the customer is setup in the system once with direct debit, invoices get emailed to customer monthly basis and then customers account is paid with a direct debit on a monthly basis.

Xero operating update

Hello folks... This is a guest post by Rod Drury (and cross posted to our Xero blog).

We put out our first half operating update this morning.

Xero Operating Update to 30 September 2009

Xero has over 12,000 customers and now has customers in 50 countries. How cool is that!

Just 12 months ago we had 2200 customers. As you can imagine there has been a huge amount of work going on behind the scenes to ensure that we scale all aspects of the business to deal with this level of growth. With the additional capital raised in May we've been able to gas up on development as well as build out our sales team with senior people in NZ, the UK and Australia.

We're delighted we've been able to lock in our growth rate after our seasonal high of March and feel that we've put the foundations in place for the next step up.

Selling software to the vast and fragmented small business market is really hard. There are few companies who have cracked it. The way people are using the web is evolving quickly and we're all just starting to understand the impact of social media. Over the last half we've experimented with a number of marketing and sales approaches to find what works in our space and in each country. I've really enjoyed this stage of the business and I think we're evolving sales models and processes that work. There is no doubt we are still learning.

Our entire team have worked really, really hard over the last half. There is a buzz inside Xero as all the hard work we've been doing is beginning to pay off. We just love the feedback and hearing how people enjoy using our software.

Thank you to our valuable customers and partners. We really appreciate your support and the great ideas and feedback. Our list of things to do has not got any smaller. And thank you again to our shareholders who have given us the opportunity to build a company that we all at Xero are proud of.

This week we also announced a new pricing model for Xero - if you'd like to read more about it and comment here in the forums, follow to this discussion about Xero pricing model.

Suggestion for Xero: 24/7 live chat

Xero should partner with some chartered accountants to have a 'live chat' type feature where a xero user can chat with a chartered accountant and ask them questions about anything to do with tax and gst and anything to do with owning a business or being self employed in new zealand. The chartered accountant won't fill out any tax forms, they will just tell people how to fill out the forms themselves and explain how to calculate things. The live chat could be available 24/7 for say an extra $20 a month and people can cancel it whenever they want.

XERO Is Big About Small Business

Xero is the provider of New Zealand's online accountancy Saas - software as a service - platform for business accounting at Xero.com. It was founded by Rod Drury and Hamish Edwards three years ago, launched to coincide with an IPO on the sharemarket and recently received a large keystone investment from MYOB founder Craig Winkler. The company is an exporter and provides services into the US, UK and Australia as well as here at home.

This conversation with Xero has been prompted by changes to our pricing plan structures. Details of the packages have been blogged by Rod Drury.

Basically, whereas in the past Xero has simply had a one size fits all pricing point of $49 per month. From October 11 the company will be offering Small ($29 per month), Medium ($49 per month) and Large ($64 per month) plans. Large is for businesses who need features such as multicurrency conversion. Small is for businesses such as freelancers and small property investors who have a small number of transactions per month. Medium is the same as what is offered at present.

This move just confirms something Rod hinted at some time ago here in the Geekzone forums - something many have requested over time.

We are particularly interested in picking up from the last discussion and talk to the Geekzone community (which appears to include among it a fair number of contractors and freelancers) about the Small plan.

Are you presently using spreadsheets to do your accounts? Is this new pricing point attractive to you? What are your options today?

In this conversation in Geekzone we will be joined by Andrew Butel (Xero Product Manager) and Helen Matterson (Xero Communications Manager) and most likely Rod Drury (Xero CEO and fellow Geekzone member) himself. On Thursday the company will be releasing some new numbers to the sharemarket and the spokespeople will be able to talk about those also.

Xero for personal use

I've just discovered Xero and it looks awesome. I'm wanting to replace crappy old Microsoft Money, but can't justify $10 a month. Are there any plans for releasing a personal version of Xero in the future with less functionality?

Xero - Payroll?

Hey guys,

I was on here a while ago asking about the API. That turned out well and I took the idea of switching from MYOB to Xero to the decision makers that be. They said they'd look into it at the end of the year and that time has now popped up. Basically, they are keen to get more integrated billing especially, and also are interested in auto reconciliation.

However there is some resistance from the accountant due to the lack of a built in payroll within the product. Using a third party just doesn't seem to stick with them (ipayroll). Has anyone got any experience using ipayroll or any word if Xero will release its own built in payroll?

Xero Personal

Hi There.

I'm an MS Money user. I reconcile 2 times a month, categorise all spending, and have been doing it for around 10 years. Cashflow forecasting is a most powerful tool.

MS Money support has ended, and recently, an index in my database died. Categorising now takes about a minute per transaction.

I've read a post / seen a video saying Xero Personal is due early 2010.

I hate to rush you, but I'm just itching to get signed up.

Would someone please advise if that target is still on track?

Regards

Rob

I see this is now launched, although only for existing business users and BNZ users (although you can sign up for a trial business account and get access to personal through that).

Is there any plans to add feeds from other banks? It's a pain to have to keep uploading files.

Looking nice so far, much better than using Microsoft Money

Feature request - PLEASE listen Xero!

Dear Kirk and team,

I have asked this via your support channel (more than once), but never got a response, so going public, and hoping some other Xero users will back me on this.

We've been using Xero for well over a year now, and I've always been concerned about the fact that our staff can access Xero from anywhere.

What I have asked for is the ability to lock down access per user by IP address, so that our admin staff can only access Xero from our office. Obviously business owners would need to control this on a per user basis, so they (or anyone they want to trust) could continue to access Xero from home or mobile. i.e. Access control via IP address should optional (per user).

Being an asp.net web developer I know this is easy to do (because we've acutally done exactly this for one of our clients' web admin systems), but to be fair I don't have any insight to how your authentication systems work, and possible other issues.

This would be a huge selling point of Xero for those who fear putting their accounting system in the cloud makes it far too easy for their confidential financial information to be 'leaked' out by staff members.

Does anyone else agree this would be a great feature? I would love to see it implemented soon.

Many thanks,

Tim

Questions for Rod Drury

I am doing Q & A with Rod Drury, the Founder and CEO of Xero and wonder if you tech guys who follow Xero would like to ask him some questions about his company from an investor point of view

and from a user point of view.

Please post your questions here.

Cheers, Darren

How to enter expense items I want to charge on to my clients?

Any ideas on how to enter expense items in a way that they can show up on a client's invoice?

For example, if I buy a plane ticket and want to pass the cost on to my client.

Migration from existing AccPac system

Has anyone migrated from AccPac to Xero? I'm IT rather than Finance so don't know what gains/losses there are between the platforms.

Stock/Inventory module, any plans

Hi, any plans for this, being a small tradie type it would be good to be able to track excess materials that end up as stock, any plans for that, or is it there and I missed it.

Also any plans for either increasing monthly invoice numbers for the small business model or maybe a monthly variable add-on for extra invoices to the small business plan.

Cheers

Cyril

Xero feature missing: revenue/invoices by customer

0

This week I was looking aroun Xero to find out exactly how much revenue per customer we have had in the last few years. There isn't a report for that - unless you go to each customer and list invoices updating the start/end period.

I wanted a simple report that would list the Top [X] customers by revenue in a period. Lucky we only have a few customers so I could manually check the ten or so records for the top ones, but anyone with a bigger flow would need more than this.

Where is Xero data stored?

I ask in light of the recent decision by the IRD that storing your primary business records on cloud services outside New Zealand is an offence under the tax administration act:

http://www.ird.govt.nz/technical-tax/revenue-alerts/revenue-alert-ra1002.html

Alternatively, does Xero have a plan to address this? I've been considering moving away from MYOB which costs a fortune and obviously if there's question about the legality, that'd be a dealbreaker for me.

Invoicing and discounts

0
0
We would like to change to Xero but it appears to lack a feature of our current system that makes it unattractive at the moment.

We supply directly at full price to end users and via agents who get a discount off the standard price.

Not all items get a discount, our labour for example does not.

Our current accountling system allows us to specify a discount % for each customer and to specify for each product whether it is discountable.

I know there are ugly ways we could use to simulate this in Xero, but we'd rather wait until they implement discounts.

This seems like a common requirement.

Do any other existing or potential Xero users want this?
